Thanks for the video, Bowen. One thing I’ve always been trying to figure out: When adding to the playfield multiplier during multiball (ball shooting the whirlpool cup to spell C-R-E-A-T-U-R-E), do the multipliers you collect stay after the multiball ends? In other words, if I end my multiball after getting a multiplier and then start another multiball on the same ball, do the same multipliers still apply?

Second related question: What about carrying it between balls?

Third (final) question: What about carrying part of a multiplier? In other words, if I collect C-R-E-A-T-U-R and then lose my multiball, do I have to start all over again, or do I just need to get one more whirlpool to finish the multiplier? (Either on the same ball or on another ball?)

Thanks! And, thanks for all of the videos. The WHOLE population of San Francisco watches them every night!

    Regards,
    Eric

The multiplier does not carry from multiball to multiball you have to spell creature from the beginning each time you start a new multiball. This does not apply if you are in the same multiball and you hit the snackbar restart though, as it keeps you where you’re at in your progress during that particular multiball.

I’ve played CFTBL quite a lot on location and on that particular machine, the software settings were set so the Snackbar never lights a food target, not even for the first multiball / super jackpot. This made the game really hard.

Also, regarding the modes and multiball: if the mechanism works like it does on Judge Dredd (which I assume it would, since it’s the same design team), the mode gets completely reset by a multiball. So when the multiball ends, the mode restarts from scratch, both in timing and points. On JD, this means you could really hurt yourself when you built up a good score in a mode and then start multiball, which makes you lose all your points from that mode since they are only added during bonus. On CFTBL however, mode points are added immediately so this means you could theoretically play a mode twice by starting the multiball right at the end of it.

With the game set to Snack bar targets not rotating with pops, it becomes brutal. Depending on the mechanical state of the machine, you can try forever making that last one remaining. For targets on left side you might wanna backhand those on the right and carom. Still dangerous shots to make. Even when rotating.

I guess this is why PAPA kept the machine at medium difficulty setting which hands you Snack bar targets at the Snack bar itself (for first multi-ball at least).

I recently discovered some strange behaviour regarding the configuration on this game. And after a thorough investigation I was able to discover a bug in the software.

If the territory setting is set for European, and only for this, a reset to factory defaults will install hard setting instead of normal. Contrary to what the manual states. And contrary to the behaviour of other WPC games. European is a combination of German for settings, but US for language. In this case, German does is right. European doesn’t.

So, in some places, this game was quite a mouthful on location.

That’s a great find! Thanks for sharing!

Well, that probably explains why this game was so hard in the local bar where I went to play it (I live in Belgium).
