Aren’t the (super) mystery select awards random even in tournament mode?
Not the best tournament machine in my opinion and I was quite surprised to see the game in Pinburgh 2012 game group list.
While not perfect, the mystery awards (and super awards) are relatively balanced. The regular mystery award tends to be much smaller than the super mystery award, and the super award takes a significant effort to achieve.
Additionally, the relative score that comes from a mystery award is small compared to some of the game’s other opportunities, so we thought it was worth using. There is no “catch up” random award as found on some games, and the “double score” random award seems to be unavailable if the player is above a reasonably low score threshold.
For the record, the game was used without too much issue in PAPA 3. Yeah “double score” did come up, but as Bowen said, it never seemed to show up when you had, say, 50M+.
